NFL Draft 2020 Betting Odds: Top Five Bust Candidates

NFL busts are those players that don’t live up to preconceived expectations.

It may be a bit too early to categorize a college football prospect as a bust, but there are a few clear indicators, based on skills set and actual collegiate production.

Jalen Hurts – Oklahoma Sooners / Quarterback

With Lamar Jackson as a clear example of what a quarterback should be in the future, teams are already looking for the next prospect with the same kind of throwing/running abilities.

And Jalen Hurts is probably in the sights of many NFL teams. The Sooners player threw for almost 4000 yards, and finished with 32 touchdowns and just eight interceptions, while he was also able to complete nearly 70% of his passes.

But, Jalen struggled versus the Tigers in the Peach Bowl. He started the season on a dominant note and dramatically faded down the stretch.

Indeed, his production during the last four games of the season was horrible, with just four touchdown passes, three interceptions, and completing only 53% of his throwing attempts in two of those games.

Ball security is a big concern when Hurts is on the run. Talent evaluators shouldn’t put too much emphasis on this player’s physical attributes.

Jacob Eason – Washington Huskies / Quarterback

According to those in the know, Eason has a lot of unknowns as he will be finishing his college career with many inadequate starts.

What concerns scouts is his lack of experience, as it’s hard to evaluate a quarterback correctly, if you haven’t seen that player going through many different situations.

This player began his career as a freshman at Georgia, where he suffered a knee injury, to then losing the starter position to Jake Fromm. Later on, he was transferred to Washington and played just a single season for the Pac-12 school before heading to the NFL.

Cole Kmet – Notre Dame Fighting Irish / Tight End

The tight end will be one of the weakest positions in the upcoming 2020 NFL draft.

And that means that a lot of teams will be shopping for the perfect fit to fill that roster need.

Last year, Kmet finished with 43 receptions for 515 yards and six touchdowns. And, although those figures may raise interest by a few NFL franchises, getting this guy as a first-round pick can be a mistake if the team that picks him up is expecting early production.

Kmet has been mocked to the Patriots to fill Rob Gronkowski’s position.

Raekwon Davis – Alabama Crimson Tide / Defensive tackle

There are two main reasons why NFL teams may be putting an extra value on Davis:

First, he’s an Alabama player, a genuine NFL prospects factory since head coach Nick Saban took over back in 2007.

Second, Davis had a solid sophomore campaign, finishing with a total of 69 tackles, ten for loss, 8.5 sacks, and just a single interception.

But, over his last 26 games, he has recorded just 8.5 tackles for loss and two sacks, far from his 2017 figures.
