The Portland Meadows Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racetrack is located in Portland, Oregon. It is famous for being the first horse racing track in American history to feature night-time races and the proud home of several top thoroughbred stakes races stars. It is endured various disasters during its 70-year history but was each time rebuilt and it continues to be an important racing landmark of the Western Coast of the United States.

We can trace back the park's origins to William P Kyne, and his efforts for the legalization of pari-mutuel betting throughout the country. He conducted the first building operations in 1945, and finally opened the Portland Meadows racetrack on September 14, 1946, before an impressive audience of 10,000 people. it features a one-mile oval dirt track and a 6-furlong chute for quarter horse racing.

The Vanport City flood of 1948 forced the track to close temporarily, causing damages to the site that amounted to $250,000 US. In 1970 a fire burnt down the grandstand, but it was soon rebuilt and Portland Meadows reopened to a record-high audience of 12,635 persons the following year.

The venue was purchased by the Magna Entertainment group back in 2001, who in turn sold it a decade later to the powerful Stronach Group, owners of several other horse racing tracks across the continent. Portland Meadows recently opened a brand new poker club room within its premises and offers simulcasting services all throughout the year.
