NFL 2019 Draft Best Players and Top Picks

The NFL draft is right around the corner and there's still a lot of speculation about who may get selected 1st overall. Between who is the top prospect and who has the top pick there are a lot of possibilities for how the draft shakes down on Thursday. The two names to watch out for are DE Nick Bosa and QB Kyler Murray. Bosa hails from Ohio State, where he had 17 .5 career sacks for the Buckeyes and at 6 foot 4 266 pounds is a human wrecking ball. Murray, the number one quarterback in the draft, is a Heisman trophy winner who is a dual-threat that can fit into almost any NFL offense. His 11.6 yards your attempt was the highest in FBS history for a single season.

The top 5 picks in this draft go to the Cardinals, the 49ers, the Jets, the Raiders and the Buccaneers, in that order.

First overall will be a bit of a surprise. Arizona already has Josh Rosen at QB, so they don’t have a pressing need to select Murray. They drafted Rosen with their first pick (10th) in last year’s draft, but as he is still young a second QB in their arsenal doesn’t look bad. They could always use one as trade bait or keep him and let the two compete for the position. That is what Kansas City did with Patrick Mahomes and Alex Smith, and it worked out pretty well for them.

Should Arizona take Murray, San Francisco would be wise to select Bosa. Bosa is considered the #1 prospect in the draft and would likely make an immediate impact on any team’s defense. Especially for the 49ers, who were 28th out of 32 teams last season in points given up, a talent like Bosa could come in handy. Should the Cardinals go with Bosa at the first pick, expect San Francisco to pick up DL Quinnen Williams, who is the number 2 prospect in this year’s draft.

At number 3, the Jets will almost certainly pick up Williams or Bosa if they are still left. Besides that, they have a range of possibilities to choose from, including OLB Josh Allen, who is from the NJ area. Allen fills a need for the Jets as an edge rusher.

The Raiders are perhaps the most exciting team to watch in the draft. They will have three picks in the first round of the draft this year (4, 24, 27), and will probably be the team who benefits most if they play their cards right. It would not be surprising if they made a trade for any combination of those picks.

Tampa might go with Josh Allen as well. They are a team that is in transition and a good OLB would help facilitate their rebuild. If they can’t get Allen, Williams or Bosa, they will still have the option of Montez Sweat from Mississippi State.

Finally, at the sixth pick, the New York Giants will almost certainly try to draft a QB, but the talent at that position this year drops off significantly after Murray, so they may instead try to trade picks or fill in the other holes in their roster, which are plenty.
